Grantura - In Dreams And Other Stories

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Grantura's debut album is finally released today. It includes the singles 'Waves', 'In Dreams' and 'Down From The Mountain'. The band have been featured on Bob Harris's show on Radio 2, Marc Riley on 6 Music among others.

"This comes as close to the sound of the Californian cosmic cowboys as any group from "south-east London via the lowlands of Lincolnshire" has any right to get. There are echoes of the Byrds, the Dillards, the Clarks and the Burritos, but the best thing of all is that the whole thing manages to smell as much of real ale and cider as it does of whisky sours." - Simmy Richman, The Independent

Gigs on 2nd October at the Betsey Trotwood, London and Buffalo Bar, 20th November.

Wilco mp3 for your vote

Wilco with Fleet Foxes are giving away a version of Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" on the WilcoWorld website.

"...in the spirit of giveaways that seem to be sweeping the nation, we've got something free for you. No it's not a pile of cash (sorry) but rather an audio postcard of sorts from a summer's night in Oregon with our friends the Fleet Foxes & a lovely Bob Dylan tune."
To get the recording you need to  "...pledge to vote in the 2008 Election" and an email containing a link to the download is sent out.

Great idea, but how does this work outside of the USA? No encouragement to go for Obama or McCain. Other than encourage people to vote, a good thing, and to listen to your music for free, also a good thing. If only Frank Zappa had given away a tune when encouraging people to vote all those years ago...

An obituary appeared on the BBC website yesterday, as well as a report on the NME website

David Gilmour said on his website: "No one can replace Richard Wright. He was my musical partner and my friend."

Glen Campbell covers Foo Fighters and more

US country star Glen Campbell's new album, Meet Glen Campbell is a covers album featuring songs by Foo Fighters, Travis, John Lennon and Green Day. Like the songs we made to be sung that way. I know an alt-country band that does a wicked cover of Sweet Child Of Mine. Shouldn't work, but it does

"As I write this, I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m listening to the most extraordinary few minutes of music I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve heard all year." says Mark Edwards in The Times.

Check out his review of the album
